IMG_5218We are delighted to have been shortlisted alongside Morrison Construction in the Contractor of the Year category at the 2016 Structural Timber Awards for Kintore Midmill Primary School (Aberdeenshire Council). The new primary school is one of two for Kintore providing space for 540 pupils arranged in two teaching wings with a two storey element of core accommodation formed of a predominantly Glulam frame combined with a large CLT sports hall.

Our team of engineers designed a series of CLT bracing panels which combine with the CLT lift shaft walls to assist the overall rigidity of the building. The G-frame team commenced construction on both wings simultaneously, building from either end and working down towards the main core of the building. Internally the majority of timber beams and panels have been left exposed which necessitated protection of the timber from the elements throughout the build which took place during a harsh Scottish winter. This was achieved by use of a site applied moisture control coating along with a self-adhesive air and vapour membrane that was removed on completion.
