A family office in Fitzrovia

Hexagonal glulam roof structure for Grade II Listed townhouse

A Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in a central London conservation area has been renovated and extended to create four floors of modern workspace for a family office and two charities. At the building’s heart is a hexagonal glulam roof structure formed of home grown European Oak which supports a hexagonal glass roof above and a new first floor external terrace.

Use of a crane was impossible on the landlocked site, therefore the G-frame team developed a complex installation strategy whereby glulam elements were cut into small manageable pieces and manually carried through the building. The roof was then constructed manually in situ whilst raised temporarily on acrow props with the individual glulam sections connected by steel restraint nodes and tension rods concealed in each of the timber lengths.
