Congratulations to our clients Aberdeenshire Council and Micah T Jones whose projects Turriff Primary School and County Down Barn have been shortlisted at the 2018 Structural Timber Awards.  Both projects are strong architectural contenders and feature innovative structural solutions that the G-frame team developed working closely with engineer, Furness Partnership.

Turriff Primary School, which was designed by leading Scottish architect Halliday Fraser Munroe, is formed of a glulam portal frame, with CLT sports hall and racking wall panels adding stability. The project features a set of bespoke steel ‘brackets’ to connect the glulam columns and beams of the portal which were designed and fabricated in-house by G-frame using our steel fabrication capability.

At County Down Barn – a groundbreaking custom build project by Micah T Jones that has set precedents for CLT construction in Northern Ireland, we were able to install the long, narrow CLT upper floor in one long uninterrupted span. This was achieved by the development of an ‘over-truss’ solution where all the supporting structure is placed externally and the CLT roof panels are hung from the ‘external truss’, meaning that only the tie-beams are visible internally.
